Library Director named BBA “Citizen of the Year”

At their June 20, 2012 meeting at Lowell’s Restaurant, the Bellingham Business Association named Bernadette Rivard, Bellingham Library Director its “Citizen of the Year.”   In making the announcement BBA President John Orthamn noted that Bernadette has positioned the Bellingham Library to “serve as an outstanding community resource by targeting all segments of the Bellingham community and by partnering with other community resources to more effectively deliver services and programming.”  Also noted was the library’s response in aiding the community during the weather events of last year and the success of the Libraries for Job Seekers Program.  Congratulations Bernadette!

I’d like to thank the BBA for this honor. I am thrilled that the work that the library staff and I do is recognized as important to the community. In accepting this award I stated, “The library staff deserves much of the credit for their work in executing and often times creating the programming the library offers.” I am lucky to work with such a wonderful staff, Board of Trustees and Friends of the library group. Thank you!
