Alphabits – February 13 and 14, 2013

LETTER OF THE DAY: T
(please note: this is a general idea of what happened during Alphabits. Variations occur between Wednesday and Thursday classes depending on how many children are present, attention level, etc.)

Song: Alphabet Song

Activity: Show and Tell
The children shared what they brought that begins with the letter T!

Story: Listen to My Trumpet! (by Mo Willems)

Activity: The Twist
Because it was 1960s week, the kids danced to the famous Chubby Checker song

Activity: Word Bingo
Each child was given a coloring page of something that begins with T. In between coloring their pages, letters were chosen out of a basket. If their T word had that letter in it, they circled it. Once every letter in their word was circled, they have BINGO! The words this week were truck, train and turtle.

Activity: Turtle, Tree, Twirl, Tip Toe
The kids followed directions by doing whatever “T” activity the leader said!

Activity: Parachute
We brought out the big parachute! Then we put on music and the kids danced underneath while the grown-ups held it high.

Activity: Alphabet Soup
After the parachute, the kids each laid down on the floor and watched as Mr. Steve threw the letters over their heads. Once all the letters were thrown, the kids got to each pick up one letter.

Song: Alphabet Song
We all sang the Alphabet song one more time; this time, when we say each letter of the Alphabet, the boy or girl holding that letter is encouraged to hold it up high.
