Alphabits – March 6 and 7, 2013

LETTER OF THE DAY: V
(please note: this is a general idea of what happened during Alphabits. Variations occur between Wednesday and Thursday classes depending on how many children are present, attention level, etc.)

Song: Alphabet Song

Activity: Show and Tell
The children shared what they brought that begins with the letter V!

Story: Muncha Muncha Muncha! (by Denise Fleming)

Activity: Vase Craft
Using the letter V for the “vase,” the kids attached a construction paper flower with a pipe cleaner for a stem

Activity: Vehicles
We all pretended we were different vehicles – a race car or a dump truck or a van or a bus or even a fire truck!

Activity: Word Bingo
Each child was given a coloring page of a word that begins with V. In between coloring their pages, letters were chosen out of a basket. If the letter pulled was in the word on their coloring page, they circled it. When all the letters in their word were chosen, the kids yelled, “Bingo!” The coloring pages were of a van, a vase and a vest.

Activity: A Very Activity
We learned the difference between reaching high and “very” high, running fast and “very” fast, and other similar actions.

Activity: Parachute
We brought out the big parachuteWe put on music and the kids danced underneath while the grown-ups held it high.

Activity: Alphabet Soup
After the parachute, the kids each picked up a letter from those scattered around the room.

Song: Alphabet Song
We all sang the Alphabet song one more time; this time, when we say each letter of the Alphabet, the boy or girl holding that letter is encouraged to hold it up high.
