Alphabits – October 10 and 11

LETTER OF THE DAY: E
(please note: this is a general idea of what happened during Alphabits. Variations occur between Wednesday and Thursday classes depending on how many children are present, attention level, etc.)

Song: Alphabet Song

Activity: Show and Tell
Who wants to share what they brought beginning with the letter E?

Story: Let’s Go for a Drive!: an Elephant & Piggie Book (by Mo Willems)

Activity: What’s Inside the Egg?
The children used their ears to guess what is inside an egg after it gets shaken. (It was rocks.) Then they used their eyes to guess how many rocks were in there after a peek. (There were 10.)

Activity: Exercise
We did stretches, jumping jacks, running in place and then – everybody’s favorite exercise – push-ups!

Activity: Word Bingo
Each child was given a coloring page of something that begins with E (there were four different ones). In between coloring their pages, letters were chosen out of a basket. If their E word had that letter in it, they circled it. Once every letter in their word was circled, they have BINGO!

Activity: Parachute
We brought out the BIG parachute! First, the kids went around in a circle holding on to the parachute to the Elephant song. Afterwards, we put on music and the kids danced underneath while the grown-ups held it high.

Song: Alphabet Song
The kids all selected a letter from the ones scattered on the ground. Then we all sang the Alphabet song one more time; this time, when we say each letter of the Alphabet, the boy or girl holding that letter is encouraged to hold it up high.
