Alphabits – September 13 and 19

LETTER OF THE DAY: B
(please note: this is a general idea of what happened during Alphabits. Variations occur between Wednesday and Thursday classes depending on how many children are present, attention level, etc.)

Song: Alphabet Song (with “big” voices)

Activity: Show and Tell
Who wants to share what they brought beginning with the letter B?

Story: Boat Works (by Tom Slaughter)

Song: Bear
While listening to a song about a bear, we walked around like bears getting ready to hibernate.

Activity: Guess the “B” Animal
Three stuffed animals that start with the letter “B” were hiding in the bin. Given clues, the kids tried to guess which animals they were. And they did it!

Song: B-I-N-G-O

Activity: Ball vs. Balls
We spelled the word “ball” on the board and the kids were shown one ball. Then we added the magical “s” to the end of the word and one ball became 250 balls!

Craft: Bookmarks
The kids colored in a bookmark with a bee on it and added yarn to make a bookmark!

Activity: Bubble Bash
The parents were all given bottles of bubbles to blow while the kids danced to the music of the Beatles!

Activity: Alphabet Soup
Each child was given a foam letter to hold. When they lied down with their eyes closed, matching mats are scattered around the room. The children then opened their eyes and found the mat that matched their letter.

Song: Alphabet Song
Now that the children are sitting down with their letters and matching mats, we all sing the Alphabet song one more time; this time, when we say each letter of the Alphabet, the boy or girl holding that letter is encouraged to hold it up high.
