Alphabits – September 26 and 27

(please note: this is a general idea of what happened during Alphabits. Variations occur between Wednesday and Thursday classes depending on how many children are present, attention level, etc.)

Song: Alphabet Song (while clapping)

Activity: Show and Tell
Who wants to share what they brought beginning with the letter C?

Story: Duckling Gets a Cookie!? (by Mo Willems)

Song: Camel
While listening to a song about a camel, we walked around making humps with our hands to the music.

Craft: Make a carrot
The kids colored in carrots and tied green pipe cleaners for the top, all the while listening to the song ROY G. BIV, which is all about colors!

Song: Chicken Dance

Activity: Name Bingo
We pulled out a letter at a time and the kid searched their name tag for that letter. If they had it, they circled it. Then when all the letters in their names were called, they yelled Bingo! We kept going until all 26 letters were called.

Activity: Alphabet Soup
Each child was given a foam letter to hold. When they lied down with their eyes closed, matching mats are scattered around the room. The children then opened their eyes and found the mat that matched their letter.

Song: Alphabet Song
Now that the children are sitting down with their letters and matching mats, we all sing the Alphabet song one more time; this time, when we say each letter of the Alphabet, the boy or girl holding that letter is encouraged to hold it up high.
