THEME: READY, SET, DRAW!

Story: Harold and the Purple Crayon (by Crockett Johnson)

Activity: Shift the Shapes
Each participant was given a piece of black construction paper. Then dozens of random purple shapes were scattered around the area. The challenge: for the kids to use whatever shapes they picked up to create a picture. When they were satisfied, they glued their creation together. We then sat in a circle and, if a child chose to, s/he shared the picture s/he created.

Craft: “Magic” Drawings
The children used write crayons to draw on white paper. Then they got out the watercolor paints to paint over the paper to “reveal” their drawings. Lots of fun!
