Story: Diary of a Spider (by Doreen Cronin)
Activity: Yarn Web
The children stood in a circle. One child held on to the end of a ball of black yarn and tossed the ball to another child on the opposite side of the circle. That child then threw the ball across to another child. We did it until the whole ball of yarn was gone – and what a spider web we created!
Activity: Spider Obstacle Course
Three teams of four children stood together, one behind each other. Each player in the team holds the hands of the player directly behind him/her, thus connecting the team of four – becoming a spider with 8 legs. The teams must make it through the obstacle course without disconnecting. If a team disconnects, they must return to the beginning (this happened several times – it’s not easy!). The team with the fastest time won.
